Mis-Information on Elijah Hunt, the
father of Ryland Logan Hunt.
Many family trees on the web and with Ancestry.com have our Elijah Hunt being the son of an Elijah Hunt born in VA. Others have our Elijah Hunt the grandson of James Hunt b.1703 and Sarah Whitlock.
I am certain that these accounts are in error.
Our Elijah Hunt is the son of Thomas Hunt b. 1747 in MD.

From the above family story, handed down orally over the years, Our Elijah Hunt stated that his family left VA headed for TX in 1816-1817 and he stayed in VA to marry his then girlfriend (Lavina Carter).
The narrative says that he never heard from his family again. This is obviously incorrect as there are records in the Halifax VA Court stating that ---

Elijah HUNT of Halifax County , Virginia appeared before the court in Halifax, Virginia and appointed Daniel HOSPKINS attorney of Rutherford County to sue the clerk of court Wm. L. MARTIN of Wilson County and George BROWN administrator of Thomas Hunt's estate.

It is not known what the outcome of this was. But, it obviously stemmed from the Estate of Elijah Hunt’s father, Thomas Hunt.
Thomas stated in his Rev. War Pension Application that he moved to VA after the Revolution and then to TN, Wilson County. In 1833 he stated that he had moved to Tennessee 22 years before (1811). He further stated that after his discharge from the Army, he had moved to Halifax County, Virginia and lived there 30 years (about 1781 to 1811).

In Wilson County, TN, THOMAS HUNT wrote his will dated 19 Nov 1836. His wife's name was ELIZABETH and his children included ELIJAH, JAMES, JOHN, WILIAM, MATTHEW, ALLEN, THOMAS and PATIENT HUNT.
